The Society of Clinical Surgery will now begin accepting membership applications for the 2023/2024 cycle, in accordance with the Constitution of the Society.
The following is an excerpt from the Constitution of the Society regarding candidacy and the process:
“Every nomination for membership shall be in writing, signed by two members; and each signer shall write to the Committee on Admissions giving full information regarding the proposed candidate. The Committee on Admissions shall not consider any candidate until the above requirements have been fulfilled. Active members shall not be over 45 years of age at the time of their election. This requirement, however, may be modified in exceptional cases at the discretion of the Society.
The names of candidates who have not been acted upon favorably after three years shall be dropped from the list, but they may be proposed again for membership after a two-year interval.”

How to Apply:
Step 1: REVIEW the form below. PREPARE your application prior to starting the online process. All data elements are required, and so preparation is strongly encouraged to streamline the data entry process when you are working within the system.
STEP 2: COMPOSE the five (5) required documents* (see below). Make sure to COLLECT the proposal for membership form (signature page) and letters of recommendation.
- If a letter writer prefers to submit the letter directly, instruct them to email the document to Allantsung@virginia.edu with the subject line “SCS Letter of Recommendation”. In the case of an emailed letter, please note on the proposal for membership form (signature page) that the letter will be submitted via email. The proposal for membership form (signature page) should always be submitted by you through the portal.
STEP 3: CONVERT all of the required documents* to individual PDF documents prior to uploading.
Step 4: BEGIN the electronic application process by clicking the link below to take you to the live application.
Step 5: COMPLETE all fields within the online form, answering all questions and uploading your required documents as PDFs. If you have any issues submitting via the web form, you must email all materials to Allantsung@virginia.edu before the deadline.
STEP 6: SUBMIT once you have completed the entire form. After you submit, revisions will not be possible.

- Note: If nominated, the executive summary will be used on the voting ballot to introduce you to members who may not be familiar with your accomplishments. Please highlight your scope of clinical practice and annual RVUs, educational accomplishments including awards and research contributions specifically focusing on funded projects and those of particularly high impact on the field.

What Happens Next?
- Immediately after submission, you will receive an automated confirmation message as well as an email confirmation message. The health system email filter may send your confirmation email to spam or quarantine, so please check there as well. The webpage confirmation and email confirmation indicates that your submission has been received. If you would like additional confirmation or did not receive both confirmations, you may wish to email socclinsurg@gmail.com.
- The Society will vote on new members at the November Annual Meeting.
- You will hear from the Society regarding your status after the annual meeting on or before Jan. 1, 2024.
